DeepSeek, BetCris, Mahomes -- Oh My!
Happy Monday Folks! The January 27th Knup Letter made it out on time!
Hope you had a great weekend! Mine was packed with basketball on Saturday and football on Sunday. Go Chiefs! I’ve been stacking up Patrick Mahomes cards (including some rookies — check out my @KnupCards instagram as I’ll be posting them this week for show) for a few years, so a fourth ring or a future GOAT status would be music to my ears. Here’s hoping he keeps racking up those wins!
If you just got back from ICE, welcome home. I heard it was in Barcelona this year—never been, but I’m excited to check it out someday. Let me know how it went!
Monday has hit me like a freight train (proof why I’m finishing the newsletter up at 9:30 PM again), but I’m all about moving fast, taking action, and staying decisive. Sometimes you just have to power through and figure it out later.
Quick story time: I always pick “practical” over “cool,” in life — and this weekend proved why. My son wanted a slick new phone case a few months ago —no pockets for cards, just a sleek design
I told him to get the case that holds his debit, credit, and license instead, but he ignored me. Guess what?
He lost his credit card the other day after sticking it in his pocket. So now we’re ordering the practical one with the card slots. Lesson learned, right?
Cool is nice, but practical saves you headaches. Combine them if you can—but if you can’t, go for practical every time!
Anyway, let’s dive into the day and crush it.
Here are the stories from over the weekend that might catch your interest in my four pillars.
Betcris returning to the US via Arizona sports betting license [SPORTS, BUSINESS] — I’d say this is some big news huh?! PS -- we have 3 x Arizona betting domains available for purchase or JV... ArizonaWager (.com) | BetsArizona (.com) | SportsbookArizona (.com) --- hit me up.
History of Google Algorithm Updates [CONTENT] — Nice overview and history of the Google Updates and what they were meant to do. For you SEO geeks like me!
Turkish Authorities Shut Down 233,000 Illegal Gambling Websites in 2024 [BUSINESS] — if Turkey “shut down” 233,000 websites, just how many are there out there? That’s a lot of potential Coded Content partners :) You like how my brain thinks?
Michigan regulator sends cease-and-desist letter to MyBookie.ag for offering gambling without valid license [SPORTS, BUSINESS] — betCRIS comes into the US… MyBookie getting kicked further out…
What is DeepSeek? [TECH] — see my thoughts below… Mind blown! A small Chinese artificial intelligence lab stunned the world this week by revealing the technical recipe for its cutting-edge model, turning its reclusive leader into a national hero who has defied US attempts to stop China’s high-tech ambitions.
Illinois: Peoria officials woo Boyd Gaming for land-based casino, discussions continue [BUSINESS] — been to the Par-A-Dice one to many times back in my Central Illinois living days. Oh the good ole days of side hustling Texas Hold’em poker til 3 am then going to work :)
Today's Word: Communication
Communication is the secret sauce for everything I do in sports, business, tech, and content.
In sports, a clear game plan means the difference between winning and losing.
In business, sharing ideas and feedback can spark new deals or kill big problems before they blow up.
In tech, quick chats between team members help fix bugs or build fresh features.
And in content, solid communication keeps everyone on track, making sure the final message shines.
I’ve learned that it’s not just about talking. It’s also about listening. Paying attention to someone else’s point of view can open doors we didn’t even know were there.
Whether it's a team huddle before a big game or a brainstorming session at the office, communication is our biggest ally.
Are you a good communicator?
Early Super Bowl Odds
Chiefs slightly favored in the upcoming Super Bowl game. Who do you like? I can’t go against Mahomes and the Chiefs until they force me to. Give me KC!
Like I said earlier, was great to watch the Championship round this weekend. How did your betting go?
I had the Hornets +5.5 as my pick but guess what… It just ended. It would have won too — sorry! So we will just roll with our early Super Bowl Pick. Get your Chiefs bets in folks :)
PICK: KC -1

DeepSeek just dropped a bomb on the AI world. If you thought ChatGPT was the top dog, get ready to be shocked. This Chinese startup burst onto the scene with an AI model that cost only $6 million to build — a fraction of what U.S. companies are spending. Suddenly, it’s the most downloaded free app in Apple’s Store, leaving investors stunned.
Wall Street felt the jolt. Nvidia’s stock took a hit, and other AI players saw their shares slide. Why? DeepSeek uses a clever approach called “inference-time computing,” which needs fewer chips and slashes costs. Some experts see this as a game-changer. Others think it might be a blip. But nobody is dismissing it.
The buzz is that DeepSeek’s model can rival ChatGPT on many levels. That alone turned heads, because most folks assumed you need billions of dollars to build serious AI. DeepSeek says, “Not so fast!” Now, big questions swirl: Will U.S. companies trust a Chinese startup for their AI needs? Or will they stay with local giants like OpenAI and Google?
In the meantime, we’re jumping in to see what DeepSeek can do for us. We’re going to test-run our own Coded Content use cases through DeepSeek’s system, especially for sports content. We want to see if it’s as powerful and efficient as people claim. Stay tuned — we’ll share what we learn soon. This could be the next big twist in AI!

Why was Nvidia so worried about DeepSeek?
Because DeepSeek was “chipping” away at its profits
Ohhhhh… This is a good one for today’s news :)
Happy Birthday to Yara Demarque, Brooke Hernandez, Ben Wright, Marc A. Davis, Sarah Hays, Klemen Kristl, and Lisa Siples.
Hiring spot… I’m looking for a few roles across my companies and partnerships I’m involved in.
Compliance Officer — pretty big role and I won’t explain more yet. But if you are interested or know someone that has this experience — reach out.
AI & Automation Specialist — I'm looking to hire someone part time in the coming months that can really dial in and help us use AI / tech / automation tools even more than we are already. Basically, I want this person to geek out and love AI, Tech, Automation. Anything we are still doing manually, they will be tasks to take over and figure out how to automate best within our business systems. Must be an efficient worker!
Commission Based Sales Agents — part time people that want to sell domains? Sell coded content? Email me. Some big opportunities here to fit it into your daily life if you aren’t full time somewhere else.

Thanks for reading along and letting me share a whirlwind of updates—from big AI news to practical phone case lessons. Life can throw a lot at us, especially on Mondays, but it’s all about staying decisive and moving forward. Keep that communication strong, whether you’re in a sports huddle, a tech sprint, or running a business brainstorm. It’s the glue that holds everything together.
On a lighter note, I just heard that Luke Bryan is heading to Orlando in June, and that’s a total bucket-list concert for me. I’m already picking out my cowboy hat! Lol ok probably not (but I do have one from my NamesCon adventure in Austin, TX a few years ago).
Between new AI breakthroughs (everyday it seems) and summer concert plans, the rest of this year should be a wild ride. Thanks for tuning in, and I’ll see you right back here tomorrow!
